HORMONES AND SLEEP
The Hormone Connection to Good Sleep
A good night’s sleep is a crucial component of maintaining a healthy immune response. Sufficient sleep increases the body’s number of infection-fighting antibodies and other cells. During sleep, the body releases pro-inflammatory cytokine proteins which are important for fighting infection. Additionally, studies have shown that sleep plays a role in the way these proteins help promote the interaction between antigen presenting cells and T helper cells and may play a role in the formation of immunological memory. As we age, andropause in men and menopause in women can cause hormone imbalance and make sleeping soundly a challenge. Hormone optimization helps restore patient’s energy and promotes the ability to sleep soundly.
In addition to hormone balance, positive habits play an important role in promoting healthy sleep patterns and boosting the body’s ability to fight infection. Encourage patients to establish a checklist to help practice proper sleep hygiene, including:
° Reducing screen time before bed
° Being mindful of light levels to promote a proper circadian rhythm
° Developing a pre-bed routine to relax
° Exercising regularly
At M50, Dr. Patel, as a certified BioTE® practitioner, understands that though symptoms like trouble sleeping may seem small, they can have a significant impact on overall health. Optimizing hormones to treat these symptoms at their root strengthens vitality and promotes a strong, resilient immune system.

HORMONES AND MENTAL HEALTH[bg_faq_start]
Hormone Balance and Emotional Well-Being
Particularly in times of stress, an imbalance of the body’s stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol can cause a variety of emotional symptoms including low mood, anxiousness, moodiness, jitteriness, irritability, and difficulty concentrating. Imbalances in estrogen and testosterone may both affect a patient’s emotional state. Low estrogen, in particular, has been misdiagnosed as depression, anxiety, bipolar, and other mental health disorders. Estrogen can increase serotonin and beta-endorphins, which are associated with positive mood states. Decreased levels of estrogen have been associated with panic attacks, low mood, anxiousness, and mood swings. Replacing the estrogen that is being lost and returning it to normal levels, may relieve emotional symptoms of hormone imbalance and return patients to better health. While the relationship between Estrogen, Testosterone, Progesterone, and mental health are well known, the impact of Thyroid hormone on emotional well being is equally important. Hyperthyroidism is a condition where the thyroid becomes overactive, and as a result, can cause low mood, anxiousness, and even panic attacks.

DIM SGS Plus – (60) – $32
Extracts from broccoli and pomegranate that provide support for the healthy utilization of estrogen in both men and women.
When we age, our testosterone levels drop, naturally increasing our estrogen levels. Too much estrogen can cause significant damage to our bodies. Studies have shown that people with high levels of estrogen have a higher risk of increased weight gain, bloating, water retention, and worse.
DIM, short for diindolymethane, is a hormone “balancer”. When taking daily, BioTE DIM SGS Plus can support weight management and be beneficial for breast, uterine, cervical, and prostate health.
Our DIM supplement is derived from broccoli and pomegranate. However it is not a plant estrogen or an estrogen mimic, like soy isoflavones. DIM stimulates more efficient metabolism for estrogen, meaning it helps regulate the ratio of healthy to less healthy estrogen-leaving you feeling great.a hormone “balancer”. ADK 5 & ADK 10 – (90) – $28
A combination of three essential vitamins that supports improve bone health in men and women.
Osteocalcin is a protein secreted in bones that assists with remodeling your bones by both reabsorbing older bones and in laying down new healthy bone. Vitamin D3, the “sunshine vitamin,” is vital in producing osteocalcin. However, D3 needs help from the vitamin K2, a cofactor that is essential to the bone strengthening process. Vitamin A supports these two vitamins, as well as the immune system.
When taken daily, BioTE ADK 5 & 10 promotes the positive effects of bio identical hormone therapy replacement and may help strengthen bones. Depending on the severity of your bone issues, you may choose from BioTE ADK 5 or ADK 10, which includes a higher dose of D3.
The combination includes vitamin A as retinyl palmitate, vitamin D3 as cholecalciferol, and vitamin K as menaquionone-7. BioTE ADK 5 contains 5000 IU of vitamin D3 per capsule, and BioTE ADK 10 contains 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 per capsule.
Curcumin SF – (60) – $23
Well-absorbed curcumin for relief from occasional joint and muscle soreness.
All curcumins are not created equal. Although used for centuries as an ingredient in Asia, most forms are poorly absorbed in the bloodstream, whether coming from food or a nutritional supplement. BioTE Curcumin SF is the most clinically studied curcumin on the market with a 29x greater absorption then ordinary curcumin.
When taken daily BioTE Curcumin SF helps a healthy inflammatory response throughout the body and provides relief from the overuse of muscles and joints and injury.
Curcumin enhances the activity of the COMT enzyme, which helps metabolize estrogen via methylation (the main way gene activity is adjusted during life!) in both men and women. In turn, it protects cells from DNA damage from improper estrogen metabolism.
Iodine Plus – (180) – $30
Imperative minerals that support boosted energy levels, metabolism, and natural hormone production.
The thyroid gland takes the iodine you ingest and converts it into two hormones-thyroxine (T4) and triiothyronine (T3). T4 and T3 regulate your body‘s metabolism of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Every cell in your body depends on T3 and T4, so if you don’t have enough, you aren’t functioning well. BioTE Iodine Plus also contains two other essential ingredients-selenium and zinc. Selenium and zinc also needed to help with the formation of active thyroid hormone (T3).
When taking daily, BioTE Iodine Plus provides you with a substantial amount of iodine to help ensure a deficiency is not impairing your hormone production. Moreover, iodine supports healthy breast tissue by up-regulating proteins involved in estrogen metabolism.
Even if you are healthy eater, you may be at risk. Some foods can cause relative iodine deficiency by binding to iodine, which can make the bound iodine inaccessible for thyroid hormone production. These foods include broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, kale, soy, peanuts, pine nuts, turnips, and rutabaga, although cooking these vegetables tends to make them less apt to do this.
ARTEROSIL HP -( 60) – $55
The only product clinically proven to restore the endothelial.
The endothelial glycocalyx is the protective non-stick lining of your veins and arteries that prevents cholesterol and other particles from adhering to or penetrating the endothelial wall. It is a delicate structure that can be damaged under many conditions, such as high blood glucose, oxidative stress, and inflammation.
When taken daily, Arterosil delivers the building blocks necessary to strengthen the artery wall’s protective barrier, promote a healthy heart, maintain a healthy artery wall, and support a strong and vital endothelial glycocalyx.
Pathologies associated with an impaired endothelial glycocalyx include coronary heart disease, hyperglycemia, diabetes, renal diseases, stroke, and severe trauma. Arterosil contains specialized sulfated polysaccharides (SSP) derived from a rare seaweed.
Methyl Factors Plus – (90)- $30
A concentrated and comprehensive formula for a happy heart, quick cognition, and bone health.
Methylation is a critical biochemical process that has a significant impact on your body‘s ability to regulate its cardiovascular, neurological, reproductive, and detoxification systems. Unfortunately, the nutrients needed to make sure that optimal methylation occurs in your body are impossible to get from a daily diet, mainly due to the abundance of processed foods and lacking soil nutrients in our society.
When taken daily, BioTE Methyl Factor Plus provides you with five essential methylation nutrients, in their most bioavailable forms: Methylfolate (5-MTHF), active B6, active B2, active methyl B 12, and betaine.
One of methylation‘s most important roles in the body is keeping our homocysteine levels in check; homocysteine is a common amino acid in your blood. Maintaining a desirable level of homocysteine is one of the leading biomarkers for the maintenance of good cardiovascular health. More good news? Preventing an undesirable homocysteine level is also associated with the maintenance of bone, female reproductive, cognitive, and neurological health.
Omega 3 + CoQ10 – (90) – $34
Combines EPA and DHA from pure fish oil with Coenzyme Q10 to support heart, blood vessel, brain, bone, and muscle health, as well as increased energy.
Research has established the critical role of a omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA in supporting cardiovascular health and blood vessel elasticity. The compound Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an intracellular (meaning present in your cells) antioxidant that’s essential for the health of tissues and organs. It particularly benefits those cells that are the most metabolically active, such as those in the heart muscle.
When taken daily, BioTE Omega 3 + CoQ10 can promote normal cardiovascular function, blood vessel function, and brain health. Our DHA and EPA are extracted from the purest fish oil sources available through molecular distillation to ensure the removal of cholesterol and contaminants, including PCBs and heavy metals.
Although your body produces CoQ10, its production tends to decrease as you age. That’s a shame because CoQ10 is stored in the mitochondria, or your cell’s power source, where one of its primary functions is to generate energy for your cells. Combining CoQ10 with pure fish oil helps your body absorb and use CoQ10 better.
PROBIOTICS Multi-Strain Probiotic 20B – (30) – $23 Bacillus Coagulans – (60) – $23
Two unique blends of probiotics that support optimal hormone balance and good health.
Probiotics are living microorganisms, like bacteria and yeast, that reside in your gut and are vital for your body to function properly. However, our contemporary diet and modern medicine has made it very easy for your body to lose the most important types of gut bacteria, leaving your body to slow down or be sluggish.
When taken daily, probiotics help promote good gut microbiota bacteria that supports a healthy immune system, hormone and PH balance, weight management, and a steady digestive system.
Both BioTE Multi-Strain Probiotic 20B and Bacillus Coaglans help support your microbiota bacteria, which are part of the microbiome-or all the bacteria and other organisms that inhabit the gut, plus the genetic material and metabolites associated with these bacteria. The microbiome plays a role in the recycling and metabolizing of our bodies’ hormones, such as thyroid hormones and estrogen.
BioTE Multi-Strain Probiotic 20B contains 20 billion active cultures per capsule and supports the digestive tract and immune function of individuals under stress, while Bacillus Coagulans contains one strain of bacteria that is strong and stable enough to survive stomach acid, retains its potency in the intestines, and is an excellent choice for acute events and recovery, such as antibiotic use.[bg_faq_end] [/dm-section] [dm-section]
Here are answers to some common questions about BioTE®.[bg_faq_start]
What are BioTE® pellets?
This is a unique form of hormone replacement that enables both men and women to restore normal hormone levels without the need for oral medication or uncomfortable injections.
Treatments utilize bioidentical hormones, which are plant-based hormones that have the same biological structure and function as your naturally produced hormones. BioTE® Hormone Pellets work to replace the hormone that the body is failing to produce in order to safely and effectively rebalance healthy levels. BioTE® Hormone Pellets offer a non-synthetic and more natural solution for boosting your health so that your body can feel and perform at its best.
How does BioTE® work?
If a hormone imbalance is the source of your symptoms, our specialists can administer consistent hormones in pellet form. Pellet hormones offer patients a more consistent dose of needed hormones without the hassle of oral medications or injections. The BioTE pellets are inserted beneath the skin, typically in the gluteal area. The pellets work to release the necessary amount of hormones steadily throughout the day. This is effective at preventing mood swings or other reactions. Because BioTE® pellets are composed of pure hormone, your body is able to absorb the necessary amount it needs. These specialized pellets are effective at eliminating symptoms and restoring optimal health and wellness.
What is the BioTE® Method?
The BioTE® method of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses pellets that contain either bioidentical testosterone or estrogen. Each patient’s pellet therapy is customized specifically to their needs based on extensive lab work and an office visit with a certified BioTE® provider. Pellets are placed subcutaneously (just beneath the skin) in a nonsurgical insertion. They then release a continuous stream of bioidentical hormones for three to six months, during which the pellets are absorbed into the body. Pellet therapy is paired with the BioTE®-backed nutraceutical line CORE+, created specifically to supplement BHRT and help improve hormone health.
How long is the pellet insertion process?
The insertion process itself is very short. Expect to complete your intake paperwork and then the nurse will take you to the procedure room. Dr. Patel will go over your lab report and explain the results and explain the procedure. The insertion takes Dr. Patel around 5 minutes. He will inject a numbing agent and will then complete the pellet insertion. He will then bandage the insertion site and will provide you with post-procedure care instructions and will answer any questions you may have.
Is there any downtime?
There is no immediate downtime which would prohibit you from driving, working, shopping, etc. You should not do any heavy lifting or otherwise engage in lower body exercise for a few days until the insertion site has begun to heal. You don’t want the risk of the pellets coming out! You also should not take a bath for the first few days. Showers are fine!
We are proud of you for wanting to keep up with your squats!
However, any activity that might open the insertion site may cause the pellets to come out. BioTE® Pellets are not effective outside your body! They need to remain inside your body in order to metabolize and help you reep the benefits of the hormone replacement therapy.
Don’t worry, pretty soon after the insertion you will have enough energy to do 200 squats instead!
